Re: Sullivan & Gold
If we are left with Carroll to lead the line this season we are bang in trouble.

"Unplayable" about twice a season and only effective one way.

The owners acknowledged this, didn't buy Batshuayi soon enough and fucked about with Lacazette and Bacca.

Now they've spunked that money on Ayew and are trying to claim he can play through the middle.

I think there will be more signings before the window shuts, lets hope one of them is a quick centre forward.

The transfer window doesn't shut til the end of the month.

Re: Sullivan & Gold
"Yet their transfer budget is five times what we spend."

because they have massive financial income outside of what happens on matchdays. perhaps you should look at the published accounts of both teams last season and then rethink that line?

Re: Sullivan & Gold
according to C&H (and i'm assuming DG fed him some of the info) we spend £42m.
last season we spent circa £30m

+£12m YoY isn't huge when you consider the extra TV money.

anyway, my issue is the way the money has been spent and (to a lesser extent) the noise that comes along with it.
we had 2 priority positions to fill, and havent filled either. i'm not saying we've signed bad players, but they are not the right players.

Ayew & Nordveit are prime examples.

Re: Sullivan & Gold
The owners say there won't be any more signings.

Gold said this on the official site a few hours ago, Sullivan said much the same last week.

"It has been a long summer but I think the business we have done overall has been incredible and I have to pay tribute to David Sullivan, Slaven Bilic, Tony Henry and Andrew Pincher for all the hard work they have put in to ensure we have had a near perfect window," Gold said on the club's official site.

Ron, I think it is fair to say we got very lucky last season with Payet and a few others. I can't ever remember another time that so many signings have come good and most would agree. I am not convinced we will be so fortunate this time around whether loan, free or other.

Regarding bringing more players in both owners have said we are not.

c&p gold, sullivan said same last week.

"It has been a long summer but I think the business we have done overall has been incredible and I have to pay tribute to David Sullivan, Slaven Bilic, Tony Henry and Andrew Pincher for all the hard work they have put in to ensure we have had a near perfect window," Gold said on the club's official site.

"There are number of top clubs across Europe who are looking to sign a striker who can score over 20 top flight goals a season, but when it comes down to it there are probably only ten forwards who can do that and all the top Clubs are chasing them.

"We can still be very excited over the signings we have made and our fans should not forget that we have made a club record signing and the arrival of Andre Ayew is a major coup for the football club."

Re: Sullivan & Gold
Probably true there B.

I also think the problem is that nobody has seen a few of them play.

Like Feghouli....ignore the fact he's been involved in the world cup for algeria and played well....or been playing well for valencia in la liga....and in the champions league....and the europa.....

Just because a few people never heard of him because he's never been in a fantasy football team or on MOTD he's been written off.

I can't get my head around it anymore, we've turned into Arsenal & Liverpool fans.

Re: Sullivan & Gold
Its the striker comments which sullivan made which has got people's backs up. top clubs go about their business efficiently. we splatter how much we have to spend all over twitter, then moan whne players demand too much!

indeed, apparently they were virtually unknown, basically because they'd never played in the PL....

We were sold the move to the os to compete at the top table but with these two in charge that will never happen.
Quite frankly they've disgusted me this window and the sooner they sell up or die the better

Levi Stubbs 3:24 Tue Aug 16
Re: Sullivan & Gold
Yea, they should sell us to some Chinese people and do one, then we can be as successful as Birmingham. I mean Birmingham are doing brilliant now them twats are gone, oh no wait a minute...

You gotta love the reaction of some 'fans' after one away game to a team who will be challenging for the title.

Re: Sullivan & Gold

For me it is not the amount of money we have shelled out but how it has been spent.

The owners clearly said a top new striker was a priority and think most fans recognise that we needed a right back going into this window, yet despite shelling out £40m+ neither have been addressed, so that is disappointing and I don't get all the self congratulating they are giving themselves now.

The main reason for me mentioning how much has been spent being relevant is that the owners claimed the move to the OS would release the constraints we had financially at the Boleyn so despite the move and record TV money we are already pleading poverty having spent not much more than we probably would spent had we stayed in Upton Park, personally I can see why some fans who accepted the move would feel somewhat let down as things stand right now.

Johnson 3:27 Tue Aug 16
Re: Sullivan & Gold
Levi Stubbs 3:24 Tue Aug 16

That's because they sold to an absolute crook and didn't due diligence on him.

They chased the pound note, they couldn't give a fuck about Birmingham. The fans had turned on them and attendances were down so they fucked them off.

i-Ron 3:30 Tue Aug 16
Re: Sullivan & Gold
penners, Sullivan isn't responsible for the transfer market values across europe this summer. You gotta be mega paranoid if you think his interview with sky led to pogba costing £89m or Hugauin's transfer value.

I do reckon he underestimated how much it would go up but so do the fans. We laugh at every deal a rival is making, the wages they're paying too, like yesterday's bolasie bashing.

"having spent not much more than we probably would spent had we stayed in Upton Park, personally I can see why some fans who accepted the move would feel somewhat let down as things stand "

did people honestly swallow that bollocks about players wanting to play for us because of the OS, and that we'd sign any player in the world off the back of it? Actually, don't answer that, I already know the answer

Still, you only have to back a year - page 155 or thereabouts on here - to see all the same threads after defeats by Leicester & Bournemouth.
Penny pinchers, shit transfers, payet won't handle the premier league. Mostly the same people too.

So what accounts for man u'a extra 120 million just in transfer fees? Jersey sales?

i-Ron 3:33 Tue Aug 16
Re: Sullivan & Gold
kylay, apparently zlatan's shirt sales topped £70m plus in the first two weeks, which helped them sign pogba

Re: Sullivan & Gold
kylay

that's the point mate, you don't know do you? they are a huge global 'brand' now, you only have to look at the number of 'partners' they have. ffs they have an official noodle partner who probably pays them absolute millions to use their name around the globe.

just have a look mate, see how much revenue their 'brand' generates.

penners28 3:35 Tue Aug 16
Re: Sullivan & Gold
i didnt say his comments led to pogba costing 89m?

he set an expectation with the fans regarding a MARQUEE signing, and then told everyone how muich we had to spend, and then told everyone how much we had offered tevez..AND THEN is surprised when players are asking for £150k per week.

If we want to compete with the big boys then we have to get stuck in. personally, I wouldnt have sold tomkins for 1, or bought Tore.
